Synopsis

In 1644, the Ming dynasty collapsed. Li Zicheng led the Great Shun army into the capital, ready to usher in a new age, only to suffer a crushing defeat at Shanhai Pass. His army fell apart, and a hundred thousand mighty soldiers were reduced to a shattered remnant. As Li Zicheng fled, he fell from his horse and lost consciousness. In a dream, he foresaw the Manchus entering the pass, the land of China falling into ruin, and the people reduced to slaves. The vision filled him with anguish. When he awoke, he swore to avenge his defeat and reclaim his honor.

Looking for Novels About Rebellion at the End of the Ming Dynasty

I read this before, but I’ve forgotten the title. It was set in the late Ming dynasty, during the Chongzhen Emperor’s reign. The protagonist gradually built up his power and gained a sizable following. Rebel kings began appearing one after another, and Chongzhen had no money, so he offered the protagonist official positions in exchange for cash.
