An overworked delivery driver dismissed as having a “wasteful spirit root” discovers that when he follows certain routes on late-night deliveries, he can absorb the “negative spiritual energy” that gathers in specific corners of the city: resentment, fear, and greed. These “dregs” turn out to be an unconventional resource for cultivation, and they also make him a thorn in the side of the strange beings lurking in the city’s darkness.
