Synopsis

Empress Zhaoci Shengxian, née Meng (1073–1131), was from Mingzhou (present-day Yongnian, Hebei). She was the first empress of Emperor Zhezong of Song, Zhao Xu, and a granddaughter of Meng Yuan, who served as Defense Commissioner of Meizhou and Cavalry Commander and was posthumously honored as Grand Commandant. She was deposed twice and reinstated twice.

In 1092, the seventh year of the Yuanyou era, Empress Dowager Gao took a liking to her, and she was made empress. In 1096, the third year of the Shaosheng era, Liu Jieyu, who enjoyed great favor, falsely accused Empress Meng of cursing Emperor Zhezong. This indirectly led to Meng’s deposition and her relocation to Yaohua Palace. In 1100, the third year of the Yuanfu era, Emperor Zhezong died and Zhao Ji, Emperor Huizong, succeeded him. At the behest of Empress Dowager Xiang, Huizong restored Meng’s title as empress and honored her as the “Empress of the Yuanyou Era,” placing her above the “Empress of the Yuanfu Era” (Liu, Zhezong’s second empress). The following year, Empress Dowager Xiang died. Not long afterward, in 1102, the first year of the Chongning era, Meng was deposed again and returned to Yaohua Palace.

In 1127, the second year of the Jingkang era, Emperor Huizong Zhao Ji discussed the matter with his ministers and decided to restore Meng’s title as empress once again, honoring her as the “Empress Dowager of the Yuanyou Era.” But before the edict could be issued, the Jin army captured the imperial palace. Huizong and Emperor Qinzong were taken captive in what became known as the Jingkang Incident. Because Meng had been a deposed empress, she was not taken by the Jin army and survived.

Looking for a Normal Palace-Intrigue or Household-Intrigue Story

Are there any palace intrigue novels where the female lead doesn’t love the emperor, and the emperor doesn’t love only her either? I feel like the heroine and emperor in these stories are more like an employee and a boss. How could they possibly be in love?! Ideally the female lead shouldn’t be stunningly beautiful or rely on her looks alone.

Short Stories!!! Sweet from Beginning to End!

Both leads are strong. The male lead can tell right from wrong and see through fake sweethearts. The female lead is not blinded by love and is not self-righteous. They help each other grow and save each other.
