Preface to "Anecdotes of the Southern Ming Dynasty"
In the seventeenth year of Chongzhen, the old locust trees in Meishan witnessed the tragic end of the Ming Dynasty. Emperor Chongzhen hanged himself, leaving behind a sentence: "Let thieves divide my corpse, but do not hurt any of the people." This pushed the fate of the Han people into an unknown abyss. However, the wheel of history did not stop here. In the southern land, the Ming Dynasty's surviving subjects and remnants carried the banner of restoration. The Nanming regimes were ignited one after another like sparks, continuing the last bloodline of the Ming Dynasty amidst the ups and downs. A history of ups and downs, full of blood, tears and struggle - the history of the Southern Ming Dynasty - has just begun.
From the hasty establishment of the Hongguang regime in Nanjing, in an attempt to continue the Ming Dynasty's orthodoxy, it quickly collapsed under the iron heel of the Qing army due to constant internal party strife and corruption; to the Tang King Zhu Yujian of the Longwu regime, who was full of enthusiasm and determined to rejuvenate, but was helplessly restrained by Zheng Zhilong and other forces, unable to use his fists, and was ultimately defeated, captured, and died on a hunger strike; to the internal strife between the Shaowu regime and the Yongli regime, which made the already weak anti-Qing forces even worse. The Yongli regime, as the longest-lasting regime in the Southern Ming Dynasty, struggled to hold on in the storm. Li Dingguo's heroic deeds as two famous kings once inspired the world and brought a glimmer of hope to the cause of resisting the Qing Dynasty, but in the end they could not withstand the situation of internal and external difficulties. In the end, Emperor Yongli Zhu Youlang was strangled by Wu Sangui in Kunming, and the last bright yellow disappeared into the dust of history.
This period of history is a grand and tragic tragedy. Countless people with lofty ideals sacrificed their lives and blood for the righteousness of their family and country. They fought bloody battles on the battlefield, argued with reason in the court, and ran and shouted behind enemy lines.
