Tales of Jiujiang: The Medical Text and the Cloud Spirit

Lin Xi, a tour guide from Jiujiang, accidentally activates the family heirloom, the Apricot Grove Cloud Manual, and discovers she can summon Yunling, a spirit beast formed from Mount Lu’s clouds. At the ruins of White Deer Cave Academy, she awakens Gu Xun, a Southern Song academy student who has slept for a thousand years. He was sealed away while protecting China’s “dragon energy of literary heritage,” and has lost his memories. Meanwhile, a forbidden stele bearing a rewritten version of history appears at the bottom of Poyang Lake, and the wind chimes at Suojiang Tower ring eerily through a rainstorm. A crisis that can warp time and space is quietly approaching.

Lin Xi uses her family’s secret healing arts to restore ancient books and purge evil toxins. Gu Xun wields the “Lushan Poetry Sword,” born from Confucian righteousness, to summon a thousand years of literary brilliance against the shadows. Following scraps of a blue robe soaked with the tears of the Jiangzhou Sima, they uncover clues to a secret hidden in the Yongle Encyclopedia, only to discover the true scheme of their enemy, the Shadow Pavilion: to turn the paradise imagined by Tao Yuanming into a rift that devours reality!

From the code revealed at Langjing to the mysteries of the waters at Stone Bell Hill, from Zhou Yu’s posthumous stratagems at Gantang Lake to the warning bells of Nengren Temple, the two travel across Jiujiang’s rivers and mountains. They trace clues amid the bustling streets of Yuliang South Street and seize the stele amid a storm at Shoe Mountain. Lin Xi gathers the people through a healer’s compassion, while Gu Xun protects their literary heritage with the righteousness of his poetry and sword. At last, where the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake meet in a place known as “Two Colors of River and Lake,” they summon a thousand years of martial and literary spirit, along with the people’s faith, for a final battle over the survival of civilization.

This is a fantasy epic rooted in Jiujiang, “the place where the world’s finest sights meet.” Mount Lu’s clouds, the fragrance of herbs, the songs of the academies, and the vigor of the rivers and lakes weave together into a tapestry. Amid clashes of supernatural powers and historical intrigue, they compose a stirring song of protecting the land, its literary heritage, and the warmth of everyday life.
