A Housewife's Journey to Break Free

Su Qing thought sacrificing her career for her family was an act of love, never realizing she was walking into an invisible "besieged fortress." During ten years as a housewife, she made their home the safest harbor for Chen Mo as he built his business, only to be repaid with his betrayal and the words, "What can you do besides look after the kids?" Even worse, the growing contempt in her son Lele's eyes pierced her already exhausted heart like an icicle.

Divorce was both liberation and purgatory. Discrimination against "older divorced housewives" was everywhere, and the road to finding work was full of thorns. Every step landed on the label "worthless." Just when she thought the world held nothing but darkness, Lin Wei, another soul battered by life, reached out to her.

Beneath a humble roof, Su Qing and Lin Wei, two women covered in scars, became each other's strongest support. They shared their children, information, and tears, as well as a courage that refused to die even in desperation. With Lin Wei's encouragement, Su Qing's buried professional skills awakened; with Su Qing's planning, Lin Wei's nimble hands found a direction. From a little cooperative stall in a corner of the neighborhood to starting a warm, small business together, they stood by each other in the face of cold stares and forged a path through the thorns.

This is an ode to women supporting women. When society's standards crush an individual, only another soul's act of truly seeing them and standing by their side can kindle the spark of rebirth. Su Qing must not only reclaim control of her life, but also show her son that a mother's worth has never depended on anyone else. Her story with Lin Wei is a journey of rebuilding a home amid the ruins, of gathering faint lights into a flame that illuminates one another and warms those around them, and of breaking free to begin again.
