Some doors, once opened, can never be closed again.
In the early 21st century, technology advanced by leaps and bounds. Humanity cracked the code of its own genes and launched large-scale cloning experiments and DNA recombination programs. In a world where morality was gradually pushed to the margins, scientists created tens of thousands of “perfect humans” in the name of “evolution”: immune to disease, possessed of extraordinary physical abilities and superhuman adaptability.
But no one expected these creations to spiral out of control so quickly. They reproduced at an abnormal rate and evolved rapidly, eventually mutating into all-consuming “hive infections”: zombies in the biological sense, but smarter and more ruthless than anyone could have imagined.
Human society collapsed. Cities became hunting grounds, and night became the only constant backdrop.
Amid the ruins of the apocalypse, Wang Haoran, an apparently ordinary survivor, wants only to stay alive. He travels with his group through shattered cities, collapsed research bases, and abandoned shelters, searching for some kind of redemption, or at least... an explanation.
But in the end, they discover that this was no accident. It was a long-planned “replacement by a new species.”
Dawn will never come again, because this planet no longer belongs to humanity.
