I Give You Ten Thousand Miles of Starlight

Wen Yuwei: The only daughter of the Wen family. Once a family of close friends on equal footing with the Shen family, the Wens suddenly fell into ruin seven years ago after a major upheaval (involving the leak of core business secrets, political turmoil, or a plot by the Shen family’s business rivals?). Her parents both died, fell gravely ill, or disappeared, and she was forced to move overseas. She is neither weak nor helpless. Seven years of endurance and hard work have honed her formidable abilities (in finance, law, information networks?), resilient character, and cool head. Her reasons for returning are complicated: on the surface, it is because of a will, but in truth, she wants to uncover what happened to the Wen family, take revenge or clear their name, and protect what little remains of the family’s assets (perhaps a relative who needs protection or a family trust?). She is deeply in love with Shen Yubai, but the “betrayal” seven years ago and the upheaval that befell her family have built a wall around her, leaving her distant and guarded. Her purple dress announces her return and silently challenges the past, including the Shen family’s rules.

He is cold, forceful, and intensely controlling, but not heartless at heart. His childhood friendship with Wen Yuwei is one of the few warm, bright spots in his repressed life. When the Wen family fell into ruin seven years ago, he may have made a decision that Wen Yuwei misunderstood or found devastating, because he was young, had been misled, or acted out of a desire to “protect” her (perhaps his grandfather deceived him?). For example, he may have failed to help in time, stayed silent at a crucial moment, or even been used to do something that harmed the Wen family. This led her to leave without a word. It became a deeply buried source of pain and fixation for him. His grandfather’s will forcibly stitches together the past he cherishes (the wisteria) and the cold reality of the present (tied-up equity), stirring in him a powerful sense of being manipulated and complicated feelings toward Wen Yuwei (anger
