Bai Buyi earned excellent grades and got into a prestigious high school. On the first day of school, he was late and assigned to the last row. His deskmate was Yuan Jiu, rumored to be an unruly rebel: a top student who always seemed lazy and occasionally wrote obscure things in his notebook. One day, Bai Buyi happened to open a draft notebook Yuan Jiu had left behind and discovered some stunning lines of poetry inside. He quietly put it back, only to be caught red-handed by Yuan Jiu, who had suddenly appeared. Yuan Jiu raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Understand it?” Bai Buyi blushed and shook his head. Yuan Jiu drawled lazily, “Then I’ll explain it to you, little by little, from now on.”
Two boys as different as night and day, and a story of youth that begins in the last row. (I just can’t take it!)
