Late Summer Cuts Down Spring

We only learn to cherish what we have after losing it, and leave before we ever get the chance to embrace. Chi Che was like the sluggish light of summer: while he had Jiang Zhexu, he was too oblivious to understand. Only after losing him for good did Chi Che see the truth and his own mistakes through the pain that cut to the bone. He retraced his steps against the current of time, trying to make things right, only to discover that some cracks cannot be mended, like the gash left by the blade “Slashing Spring.” Jiang Zhexu’s fragility, fleeting existence, and silent endurance became the embodiment of the “too late” and “never got to embrace” that Chi Che could never let go of for the rest of his life. Through the two men’s growing affection, burning passion, misunderstandings, rupture, remorse, and eventual silence, the novel explores the inevitability of missed chances, the delay of understanding, and how, amid time’s irreversible current, irreparable regret becomes an eternal mark on life and the heavy price of growth. Seasonal imagery runs throughout the story, ultimately leading to a bleak realization: some springs are destined to be cut down by summer’s belated hand, leaving only dying embers sinking into the river and echoes behind.
