The Pearl Earring Lost in the Seventh Court

When Gu Jun signed the divorce papers, she was still wearing the old keepsake she’d had for ten years: a single pearl stud earring.

Next door, the opposing lawyer from the merger case she was handling walked out of court. Cheng Lang had graduated from medical school, yet he’d changed careers to practice law for her.

They run into each other while working late one night. He looks at her earlobe and asks, “That earring I gave you back then... do you still have it?”

With trembling fingers, Gu Jun reaches for the other pearl stud, kept in her drawer for ten years.

Just then, his phone rings. A child’s voice comes through the speaker: “Dad, Mom says you’re taking me to kindergarten tomorrow, right?”
