At the start of senior year, during the seating shuffle, Ji Zhijie kicked a desk out of his way and met Zhuang Yumian's icy gaze.
He copied her homework every day and deliberately let his eraser "fall" by her feet. She slapped her test paper down on his desk. "Write it yourself next time."
He scraped his knee during a basketball game. Most of the bleachers had emptied, but Zhuang Yumian stood outside the infirmary, clutching a bottle of mineral water.
When the power went out during a snowy-night study session, he suddenly grabbed her reddened, frozen hand. "There's snow on your eyelashes."
After the hundred-day countdown ceremony, they hid on the rooftop and kissed. Zhuang Yumian folded a parcel collection slip into a paper airplane. "We'll fly away together when the admission letters arrive."
On graduation day, she returned all his love letters. "Ji Zhijie, this is where we end."
Years later, when their old school was demolished, he found an undelivered notice in an old mailbox. The recipient was Zhuang Yumian. The signature box read: "No such person."
