Story Synopsis
She was widely recognized as the most beautiful woman in the surrounding villages. Beneath her dazzling appearance lay a fiercely competitive heart. To get ahead of her best friend, she didn’t hesitate to steal her fiancé. But on her wedding night, fate played a cruel trick on her: when her veil slipped away, she discovered that the husband she had schemed so hard to claim was a mentally disabled simpleton. Worse still, her firstborn son inherited his intellectual disability.
In a rural society that favored sons and where rumors cut like knives, she was forced to twist herself into knots between morality and motherhood in her desperate quest to have a healthy child. Her entanglements with her father-in-law and two other men earned her the label of “bad woman” and made her an outcast among the villagers. Yet as people judged her “fall from grace” by their moral standards, who saw her mud-stained hands holding up her children’s future with all her might? Her son married, and the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law never ceased. Her son was imprisoned, she lost her eldest grandson, and the family rapidly declined. In the end, all her loved ones left her, and she was reduced to the miserable life of keeping company with the family’s three old sows.
At sixty-five, she opened a lotus-seed restaurant, making a name for herself and driving the economic growth of the entire village and town.
Let us follow the protagonist’s journey and discover how a beautiful woman broke through the mental shackles of love, family ethics, and the loss of all her loved ones, persevered through every hardship, and built a thriving business in her later years at the age of sixty-five, bringing economic prosperity to the entire village and town…
