Deep in the deserts of northwestern Huaxia lies an ancient civilization deliberately erased from the history books: the Guifang civilization. It possessed the heaven-defying "Yellow Springs Secret Art," which could build underground tombs as intricate as mazes and use astrology to predict the future. Its central mausoleum, the "Ninefold Nether Ghost Cave," is said to be a gateway between the worlds of the living and the dead, concealing the "Rebirth Stone," which can resurrect the dead, and the "Yellow Springs Secret Manual," which commands life and death. For thousands of years, tomb raiders, occultists, and warlords have tried to uncover the cave's secrets, only to vanish in the endless sands, leaving behind the saying, "Enter the Ghost Cave, and you may never see another sunrise." In the early 1990s, Chen Mo, an archaeologist at the Northwest Institute of Cultural Relics, discovers a mural from the High Tang era in the Mogao Caves, depicting a mysterious compass, and is unexpectedly drawn into a deadly mystery spanning a thousand years. At the same time, a mysterious organization calling itself the "Yellow Springs Society" is operating in secret. Armed with half of a bronze compass, its members have set their sights on the Ghost Cave's central treasure.
