Rain Erodes Starlight

Synopsis

In Nanjing during the plum rain season, Shen Xingmian clutches an invitation to Jiang Yubai's solo art exhibition. The image of the boy parting with her in a torrential downpour seven years ago overlaps with their reunion before her eyes. Jiang Yubai, who suddenly transferred schools back then, hid the secret of his congenital heart condition, leaving behind only an unfinished painting and a broken promise to attend art school. When they meet again, the hospital wristband beneath his suit and the doctor's instructions in his medical records reveal the truth he concealed for years.

Shackled by illness and fate, Jiang Yubai pushes away Shen Xingmian, who loves him deeply, again and again. Yet in the final moments of his life, on a rooftop beneath the pouring rain, he finally bares his heart. As the heart monitor lets out a continuous tone and the starlight in his eyes fades, he leaves her a painting of someone running toward the rosy dawn. This heartbreaking romance spanning years becomes a tender promise after death parts them: "This time, I'll wait for you in the light." Together, love and regret form a moving story.
