While raising his cup in toast after cup and indulging in every pleasure, the protagonist, Zhen Yucun, loses his head and does many absurd and laughable things. He believes that eating and sexual desire are human nature, and in pursuit of fleeting affection, he disregards ethics and social order. In the end, he is ruined and disgraced, his family destroyed, and his life ends in tragedy.
