The Jade Gui: Clouds of Mystery centers on a series of strange events in Haojing, the capital of the Western Zhou dynasty. At its heart is Shangguan Yanran and Nangong Yiyun’s search for answers, with the revelations about Shangguan Yanran’s origins and the struggle for the Xuanyuan Mirror driving the main plot. Court power struggles, clan grudges, and contests over divine artifacts intertwine as the pair grow from suspicion to trust, and from pursuing their own fates to shouldering the greater good. In the end, they defeat the conspiracy through the power of justice and blood ties, protecting the peace of the Western Zhou.
Beneath the peace of Western Zhou’s Haojing, undercurrents of danger swirl. Shangguan Yanran, a female official tasked with protecting the state, stumbles upon a bronze box left behind by her father. It leads her to a three-hundred-year-old secret blood pact between the Xuanniao clan and the royal house: to secure his dynasty, the first Zhou king sacrificed a Xuanniao saintess to the Netherworld, demanding that one clan member be sacrificed every hundred years in exchange for peace.
As the Netherworld’s seal weakens and ferocious beasts emerge, Shangguan Yanran and Nangong Yiyun, the general guarding the state, set out to uncover the truth. They transmigrate through the gate to the underworld and confront a rewritten history, witnessing the fate of reincarnation beside the River of Forgetfulness. Once the truth is revealed, should they uphold the bloodstained pact, or rewrite destiny with blood and fire?
From the trials of divine beasts atop Kunlun Peak to the final showdown in the depths of the Netherworld, the pair use their Xuanniao bloodline as a guide and their courage to shatter the lies. Three years later, their reunion at a Taoist temple on Zhongnan Mountain is not only a lovers’ reunion, but also the beginning of a dynasty facing its past and embracing a new life.
