The Bizarre Game: China's Death-Defying Squad

[Ensemble cast where the protagonists can die + terrifying world and dark worldbuilding + China + the uncanny + generations carrying on the legacy]

[Not a wish-fulfillment story, no stock tropes] [The new book has just received its rating; it will rise later]

[The uncanny games come in many varieties, not just a few]

In the eyes of the gods, there has never been such a thing as a protagonist’s halo.

There are only billions upon billions of “resources” to be spent.

Their entertainment is the rise and fall of civilizations.

The history, emotions, and struggles we take pride in are, to them, nothing but insignificant variables on a chessboard.

China was just one of countless names erased from existence. It should have been no exception.

Can’t win? Then pay with your lives.

No time? Then pay with your lives.

No miracle? Then pay with your lives.

And so, 1.4 billion people “miraculously” survived.

There were no heroic epics, no stirring tales.

I was just one of those 1.4 billion.

I know the world has never had a protagonist.

Every time someone burns themselves out, we get to remain on the gods’ chessboard for one more season.
