Synopsis
After a car accident, Su Zhenyue becomes Gu Yantang’s “caged songbird.”
To the outside world, he is an elegant, refined philanthropist. To her, he is the “benefactor” who holds her life in his hands. He pampers her in a villa surrounded by begonias, yet says in the gentlest voice, “Don’t even think about escaping. You can’t live without me.”
She pretends to have amnesia, using her frail body as a shield as she carefully navigates the gentle trap he has woven. Spilled documents, hidden medicinal dregs, and probing questions in the dead of night are all weapons in her cunning plan.
He sees through her disguise, yet indulges her probing, possessive obsession hidden in his eyes. “Zhenyue, wouldn’t it be better to stay by my side and behave?”
When the truth behind her parents’ “accident” comes to light, she realizes this game has long since spiraled out of control.
She hates him for imprisoning and manipulating her, yet after he is sent to prison, she stands in the empty begonia courtyard and admits for the first time that his clumsy tenderness has long been engraved in her heart.
Is the push and pull between a frail hostage and a hypocrite a path to redemption, or another plunge into ruin?
“Mr. Gu, your tenderness was fake, but my feelings were real.”
