The sacred Buddhist sanctuary of Lingshan is rife with ghost stories.
Xiao Lingshan Temple, a thousand-year-old Buddhist holy site, is thronged with worshippers, its halls filled with the gentle sound of chanting. Yet strange incidents have been happening there of late: mournful sutras echo from empty meditation rooms in the dead of night, the temple’s merit pool inexplicably turns foul and bloody, senior monks die mysteriously while in seclusion, and ghostly figures flicker deep in the ancient woods behind the mountain... Beneath the peaceful surface, dark currents surge and fear spreads through the temple.
Deeply troubled, the abbot and elders entrust the matter to Hai Yunze, the young and promising disciple chosen to inherit the position of abbot, who possesses an unusual gift of perception. Bearing his sect’s hopes and the safety of its sacred grounds, Hai Yunze resolutely steps into the heart of the turmoil.
He thinks he is dealing with ordinary evil spirits, but soon discovers that the truth is far more complicated than he imagined. Every investigation is fraught with danger, with deadly traps at every turn. The enemy lurking in the shadows uses bizarre, unpredictable methods and seems to know the temple inside and out. As layer upon layer of clues is uncovered, they point to a temple secret deliberately buried, a forbidden Buddhist treasure lost for ages, and even the hidden pasts of some of the temple’s most powerful figures...
As trust begins to crumble, familiar fellow disciples may turn into vengeful ghosts, and solemn Buddha statues cast sinister shadows, Hai Yunze realizes that this calamity in the Buddhist sanctuary is a carefully plotted conspiracy aimed at the very foundations of Xiao Lingshan. He must race against time, discern truth from falsehood amid an array of ghostly schemes, and hold fast to his heart as the light of Buddha clashes with demonic shadows. Only by exposing the truth behind the “Ghost Stories of Lingshan,” a truth capable of shattering faith, can he save this crumbling holy site and preserve his own imperiled path of succession.
