On a July night, the heat should be steaming and the cicadas are chirping noisily. But tonight, the heavy clouds were like cotton wool soaked in ink, pressing heavily over Yangcheng, swallowing up the light of the stars and the moon. The strong wind swept from the sky, howling wantonly through the streets and alleys, picking up dust and dead leaves on the ground, slapping against the closed doors and windows, making a whimpering sound. This sudden storm, like a restless giant beast, roughly tore apart the sultry heat of midsummer and brought an almost sharp coolness mixed with earthy smell.
