The story takes place in the French Concession in Shanghai in 1935. Forensic assistant Shen Jin uses a radioactive radium salt lamp left behind by his father to develop residual retinal images of corpses, and completes a forensic investigation and espionage game with the male protagonist Zhou Yanbai.
