The Eye of Calamity

My master divined that I would face a calamity before I turned eighteen.

As he pressed five hundred yuan into my hand, his fingertips were icy cold. “Go down the mountain and seek the one destined for you.”

The neon lights below stabbed at my left eye, until I spotted a building awash in black and purple.

The instant a wealthy woman coughed up blood and collapsed, I saw the threads of karma wrapped around her soul. They were connected to my own bloodline!

Her anxious spirit grabbed me. “Save my grandson...”

After she awoke by her hospital bed, she wept uncontrollably. “The Shen family daughter-in-law who was drowned in the pond all those years ago was your birth mother.”

On the night of my eighteenth birthday, I took every curse meant for the Shen family upon myself.

As my soul left my body, I saw the Shen family matriarch leading the entire clan in a procession, kneeling every three steps as they kowtowed all the way from the foot of the mountain to the Taoist temple gates.

Amid the swirling incense smoke, my master sighed. “Such sincerity can move Heaven. I suppose this calamity... is finally over.”
