Lu Yao (1949-1992), whose original name was Wang Weiguo, was born on December 3, 1949, in a poor peasant family in Qingjian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. When he was 7 years old, he was adopted to his uncle in rural Yanchuan County due to family difficulties. He studied at Yanchuan County Middle School and returned to his hometown to work in farming in 1969. During this period, he held many temporary jobs and taught in a rural primary school for one year. In 1973, he entered the Chinese Department of Yan'an University to study.
