[Both leads untouched + devoted love + sisters swap marriages + a dramatic change in fortunes + love after marriage]
The two daughters of the Shang family were renowned beauties, and each was promised in marriage. One was to Ning Wang, the young son of Marquis Ning; the other, to an ordinary scholar. Three months after the sisters’ coming-of-age ceremony, disaster struck. The young heir of the Ning family was wounded on the border and left disabled. Rumor had it that the Marquis of Ning’s line would die out.
When she learned what had happened, Shang Zhilan flatly refused to marry. Shang Zhiyi, a gentle and virtuous illegitimate daughter since childhood, was forced to take her place.
On their wedding day, the heir was nothing like the moody, unpredictable man in the rumors. Instead, he smiled and comforted her, saying that now two disabled people had been brought together.
Shang Zhiyi agreed on the surface, but inwardly thought, I’m not disabled.
The marquis’s household wielded great influence. The Shang family wanted to wring every last benefit from this fallen powerhouse, and Shang Zhiyi became their pawn.
Out of gratitude, Shang Zhiyi was caught between a rock and a hard place. Then, on the day she returned to visit her family, she accidentally overheard that they planned to discard her.
From then on, she stopped making things difficult for herself. Ning Wang tried every way he could to coax her, wishing he could rip out his heart and liver and give them to her.
But Shang Zhiyi was the sort who would probably toss them far away and say, “Who asked for your heart and liver?”
In the capital, if anyone made Shang Zhiyi unhappy, that meant the young heir Ning was unhappy. And if he was unhappy, the entire marquis’s household was unhappy.
That night, Ning Wang was sent to sleep in the side room. Sensing something was amiss, he wondered why his soft, sweet wife had suddenly grown so fierce. She wasn’t clinging to him and crying anymore. Instead, she was holding a feather duster, and it was downright terrifying.
In this lifetime, Ning Wang was truly doomed to fall into the hands of this young woman, Shang Zhiyi!
