Wang Lin was an ordinary employee at the Qingyang County Cultural Center. While sorting through old archives, he unexpectedly discovered a register of the 1943 ferry disaster and a photograph of a strange paper effigy, setting foot on a path into a terrifying abyss. Ignoring all warnings, he went to investigate the abandoned “Ghost Ferry Bridge.” That very night, he encountered a ghostly ferry in the thick fog and its lantern-bearing boatman, Wang Chengye. He narrowly escaped, only to find inexplicable blue watermarks on his ankles. Every night, the sound of a copper bell and a bizarre children’s rhyme haunted him. More terrifying still, he gradually discovered that he was the great-grandson of the boatman who had vanished all those years ago, and that he carried the curse of the “Paper Effigy Ferry,” which came around once every eighty years. His body began to undergo strange changes, and at last, on the night of the full moon, he was surrounded by countless paper effigies and led toward the river, becoming a ferryman between the worlds of the living and the dead.
