The Faraway Side

No cheating, a blend of fantasy. Industry × magic, war × homecoming

A long journey home for a young man from East Asia

This is a world both ancient and young.

Dragons in the north, black powder in the south, and dense forests in the east. Farther south lies another vast land.

The parliamentary nation is a realm beyond this world. It has no magic and no dragons, but it does have steam engines, telegraph lines, and countless chimneys.

Yang Liangling comes from there. He is the second son of the Yang family of Jinling, heir to the greatest of the four financial dynasties, and a hapless fellow tricked by his older brother's letter into traveling to the ends of the earth.

He had only meant to spend one winter at North Cape.

But fate pushed him farther afield, toward the duke's banquet hall, the commune's printing press, the machine-gun positions on the southern front, and somewhere even more distant...

“What kind of place is this...? Well, at least there's money to be made.”
