Mechanical engineer He Yuchen opens his eyes to find himself the younger brother of He Yuzhu, also known as Silly Zhu, and the older brother of He Yushui in Love in the Courtyard. Faced with the shortages of the 1960s and the complicated relationships in the courtyard, an unassuming Daily Sign-In System becomes his starting point for making a life. Rice, flour, cooking oil, everyday skills, a little pocket money... The rewards from signing in may not be earth-shattering, but they become little sparks that warm his family and change his neighbors.
He treats Granny Deaf as his own grandmother and turns Xu Damao into a bickering but loyal friend. With a perspective beyond his time and kindness that quietly seeps into everyday life, he gently sets the wheels of the courtyard's fate in motion:
* One timely act of help saves Jia Dongxu from a fatal disaster and keeps the Jia family’s pillar standing.
* Qin Huairu, once seen as a “parasite,” stands on her own two feet and rediscovers her hardworking nature with his help and his belief in teaching her to fish rather than giving her a fish.
* The sharp-tongued, selfish Jia Zhangshi is grateful that her son is alive, and takes Granny Deaf's advice to heart. When a new baby joins He Yuchen and his sister's family, she becomes their most enthusiastic helper, clumsily but sincerely bustling about, serving brown sugar water and soothing the baby, expressing her belated gratitude through her actions.
* Yi Zhonghai lets go of his obsession and becomes a true “family patriarch,” while Liu Haizhong and Yan Bugui rediscover what really matters in life amid the warmth.
He Yuchen himself finds lasting love with Lou Xiao'e, builds a cozy home, and gains an adorable, thoughtful goddaughter, Huaihua. This is a story about an ordinary hero who accumulates small joys through “sign-ins,” protects family, friendship, and neighborly bonds amid the tides of the times, and ultimately fills the whole courtyard with warmth.
This is the first time I have seen this style of courtyard house, but I personally feel it is too idealistic and underestimates the human heart.
