There is a cruel tradition in Huaiyin Village that lasts for hundreds of years: when an important man in the village who is unmarried and dies young (especially violently) (usually from the village chief or several families with big surnames) needs to "get married" to quell his grievances or to "promote the clan", he will find a living woman for a "shadow marriage".
* The selected "bride" will be forced to wear a special "blood wedding dress" soaked in special substances (such as black dog blood, cinnabar, talisman gray), and will be sent to the ancestral grave of the groom's family or a specific "yin house" at a specific time (such as midnight, cloudy day) to complete the ceremony.
* After the ceremony is completed, the "bride" is considered to have been "married" to the dead soul, and her vitality and luck will be absorbed/shared by the dead soul to appease the dead soul, protect the family and even the whole village. The selected woman often dies mysteriously or goes crazy shortly after the ceremony, becoming a new wraith.
The object of this ceremony is: Lin Yaozu, the only son of the village chief who died early due to an accident (or murder?) Decades ago. His "grievance" is believed to have become increasingly unstable in recent years, leading to frequent strange incidents in the village (livestock dying suddenly, children crying at night, some people being mysteriously ill or mentally disturbed), and a "shadow marriage" is urgently needed to calm it down.
