In 1943, archaeologist Chen Qiming is forced to work for the Japanese army.
Warlord Luo Manzi and bandit Bai Xiaoqi become his accomplices, each held in place by a weakness of his own.
They set out to find the Xuanling Tomb of the Western Zhou, where, legend says, cultivators were once buried alive.
Deep inside the tomb, the three discover that the walls are slowly writhing.
No one in Luo Manzi's family has ever lived past forty, while Bai Xiaoqi's relatives have mysteriously lost their souls.
And Chen Qiming's family compass perfectly matches the central totem of the Xuanling Tomb.
Even more terrifying, a Japanese colonel wears a jade pendant bearing the same totem.
When the bronze coffin is forced open, countless blood vines devour the Japanese soldiers.
The only thing in the empty coffin is a jade slip: “Xuanling is no tomb. It is a living thing.”
The underground palace begins to close. They must get out alive and uncover a thousand-year-old deception.
