An introduction to Cheng Xiaoyu’s “miserable” life in the Xiling military camp: his grandfather, Cheng Tianba, drills him in the Blood Lion Battle Art, while his father keeps him busy handling military affairs. The story reveals his background, his signature martial skills (his body tempering is at an early stage, and his grandfather dismisses his saber techniques as “all show”), and his personality: he complains constantly on the surface while privately grumbling and plotting his escape. He looks down on the family martial arts and creates his own path, with a strong desire to escape his “upgraded beast-of-burden” life and find beautiful women in the jianghu. At last, he finds an opportunity (or excuse) to make a break for it. This is a story about his adventures in the jianghu with his close friend Xu Fengnian, and how, as a transmigrator, he seeks to conquer the continent through mechanical technology.
