This novel is based on the real-life experiences of its protagonist, an online fiction writer who has endured 30 years of mental illness. The protagonist was haunted by mental illness from a young age. Over the long span of 30 years, he wavered between madness and lucidity, witnessed all manner of strange things in a psychiatric hospital, and experienced the complexity and cruelty of society after being discharged.
Through the protagonist's perspective, with bizarre episodes and a shifting narrative style, the story tears open society's hidden darkness. In the hospital, doctors over-treat patients for profit, while nurses treat them with indifference. In society, people stop at nothing to pursue money and power. Family ties grow fragile in the face of self-interest, and friendship is corroded by vanity and scheming. In despair, the protagonist pours what he sees, hears, feels, and thinks into his fiction, using biting satire to expose society's sickness and the greed and ugliness of human nature, in the hope of awakening people's conscience.
