The protagonist goes from being in a miserable state of not being able to eat, to spending more and more money, to making a qualitative leap. The more money he spends, the happier he is, and there is no way he can finish it. He is full of pleasure, has an extraordinary sense of experience, and is so cool that he never has to urinate.
