Lin Zhiji & Shen Yuan: “Deep Abyss Reflects the Bright Moon,” “Clear Moonlight Shines Upon the Deep Abyss”

New to the government system, intern lawyer Lin Zhiji is assigned, through a twist of fate, to the Municipal Justice Office. She becomes a nobody at the most basic front desk, running documents, drafting reports, and mediating disputes.

She thinks this will be no more than a temporary entry on her résumé, and that after three months she’ll finally be able to intern at a law firm as she’d hoped.

But on her very first day, she runs into the legendary cold and iron-fisted municipal powerbroker, Shen Yuan.

He is high-ranking and influential, steady and reserved, the “cool-headed role model” all the young officials in the System admire.

She comes from poverty, but is kind, naïve, brave, and full of a sense of justice, with principles of her own.

The enormous differences in their status, age, and position should have set an uncrossable gulf between them.

But she is the one who delivers the final word at the mediation table, while he silently holds an umbrella over her in the storm.

He wipes away her grievances, shields her from rumors, and draws her from a “temporary internship” onto a real career path in the System.

And in this mutual journey toward one another, she learns to stand her ground with quiet confidence and patience, becoming a light that can stand beside him.

This is a restrained, older-man romance about healing, and a growth story about a young intern who blossoms with every step and turns the tide against the odds.

You don’t have to look up to anyone. Just keep moving forward. I’ll always be right behind you.
