Building a Career in a Third-Tier City, I Happen to Pick Up a Washed-Up Soldier

Cheng Chen, a pampered young lady from Shanghai, opens her eyes and finds herself a respected young technician in a small Third Front machinery factory deep in the mountains of southern Anhui in 1976?!

The ideal: lofty, to build the motherland and pour out her passion.

Reality: outdated machinery, steamed buns harder than bricks, mice shrieking in the workers' dormitory, and revolutionary quotations blaring endlessly over the radio! Cheng Chen's inner monologue goes wild: "There's not even a signal in this dump! My xiaolongbao, pan-fried buns, and crab roe buns, ahhhh!"

Rule number one for survival: be so good it seems downright wicked!

Stand up to a rigid boss? "You're absolutely right, but I can't take responsibility if production gets delayed!" (Inner thought: Do you even believe that yourself?)

Deal with jealous coworkers? Turn around and report them with evidence of their "siphoning from the socialist collective," then slap on the airtight charge of "harming the collective interest"! (Inner thought: You want to play dirty? I'll crush you with a little honest scheming!)

Push through technical reforms? "Rely on ourselves and practice economy to advance the revolution! Improving efficiency is how we support the nation's development!" (Inner thought: This antique machinery belongs in a museum more than my great-grandmother's foot-binding cloth!)

It's just... that ice-faced driver, Li Yuanbin, who drives a liberated truck, is a bit of a problem.

A formidable veteran of the military, with a gaze cold enough to freeze flies. They say he has "serious family problems." Cheng Chen means to steer clear, but the mountain road has eighteen bends, and fate's steering wheel keeps turning him her way!
