During the Qing'an period of the Ning Dynasty, Shen Zhaozhao, the legitimate daughter of the Marquis of Kyoto, was set up by her stepmother Wang and her concubine Shen Meier to marry a dying wealthy businessman because her mother died young and her father was addicted to alchemy. She resolved the crisis by relying on the "Records of Su's Housekeeper" left by her mother and her medical skills. Later, she exposed her stepmother's corruption, won over the people of the house, and gradually took charge of the family. In the process, they met Lin Shuyan, an abandoned disciple of the Xuanqing sect who was hiding in the Hou Mansion as a guest. The two went from testing each other to working together to solve the troubles inside and outside the house. They had to deal with the revenge of the concubine and the provocation of the foreign government, and also helped Lin Shuyan clear the grievances of his master. In the end, Zhao Zhao became the real head of the Hou Mansion, Lin Shuyan regained his status as a sect, and the two finally got married and jointly protected the glory of the Shen family.
