The first thirty chapters make up the campus arc (Volume One), with a youthful survival tone and a relatively slow pace.
If you prefer a Blood Cross style, with more despair, violence, and the perspective of ordinary people, you can jump straight to Chapter 31, the start of the city arc (Volume Two). You won't lose track of the main story.
That said, the campus arc also plants plenty of clues for the main plot, so the story is all the more satisfying if you read it.
Also, some parts of the story may seem absurd or inexplicable at first glance. They're not plot holes, but clues.
