A Glimmer Rising

At 26, Lin Wei curled up in a damp rental room in an urban village, a bowl of instant noodles before her with a pallid slick of oil floating on top. Her father's debt-collector rage exploded over the phone, while her boss dumped the blame on her, snapping the last thread of her composure. Just as everyone assumed this “bottom-rung worker ant” would drown in the urban tide, she grabbed an unexpected lifeline: a chaotic Excel spreadsheet. Three years later, beside the champagne tower at Xinghui Tech's celebration banquet, the smile of its new director, Lin Wei, reflected the crystal lights with a cold glint. Zhao Min's carefully planned plagiarism trap was closing in, an ultimatum from her younger brother back home demanding money for a house rattled her phone, and a parachuted-in executive's order to falsify figures was closing in on her throat. That night, she took off the battle-armor heels she'd scraped together the money to buy and walked barefoot onto the rooftop. Below her lay an iron jungle that had swallowed countless dreams; in the distance lay the abyss she'd climbed out of. On this road to breaking free, she'll either become a butterfly or turn to ash.
