>In 2000, Dongguan's nightclubs were growing wildly and roaring back to life.

>Dong Ling showed up with 500 yuan to apply for a job as a waiter. On his very first day, he walked into a gang shootout over protection money.

>“Pretty boy, if you want to live, keep your wits about you!” The floor manager shoved him behind a sofa.

>But amid the shattered glass, he helped a hostess who had been knocked to the ground back to her feet.

>Three months later, word spread about his secret to becoming a floor manager: someone upstairs in a VIP room had witnessed everything that night.

>From a busboy carrying trays to the king of the nightlife scene, he saw the most outrageous displays of money being burned.

>He also personally put seven big shots behind bars.

>“Mr. Dong, that hostess from back then is now a vice president at my company.”

>“That night, the VIP upstairs was waiting for those hands of yours to help someone up.”
