Taking the chaos of the late Tang Dynasty as the background, and using historical figures such as Huang Chao, Zhu Wen, and Li Keyong as the protagonists, the story takes place from the late Tang Dynasty to the early Five Dynasties. Huang Chao failed in many attempts, but because he was resentful of the dark and corrupt society in the late Tang Dynasty, he finally raised a flag to rebel. The Tang Dynasty collapsed under the impact of the vigorous Huangchao Uprising. The heroes of the troubled times established their own regimes one after another. The issue of vassal towns was not resolved until the fall of the Tang Dynasty. Zhu Wen of Bianzhou, Li Keyong of Taiyuan, Liu Rengong of Youzhou, Li Maozhen of Fengxiang and even the great eunuch Tian Lingzi appeared on the stage, recreating the separatist and turbulent war situation of the feudal towns in the late Tang Dynasty.
