This is my first attempt at writing a web novel, so I hope you'll be patient with any shortcomings in my writing. My story is inspired by the film A Chinese Ghost Story and the original Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. It centers on the three main characters Ning Caichen, Nie Xiaoqian, and Yan Chixia.
In my eyes, they all represent integrity, kindness, and courage, but this is a new interpretation. Ning Caichen is still a kind, poor scholar. He and Nie Xiaoqian meet because of their beauty and kindness, and because they recognize and affirm each other. Despite the danger, they risk everything to protect one another. I've wondered: if Ning Caichen had never fallen in love with Xiaoqian, would he still help her? If he felt nothing for Xiaoqian at first, would she have killed him without mercy?
The biggest change is to Yan Chixia: he is no longer a big-bearded man, but an older brother of the same generation as Ning Caichen. Without Ning Caichen, would he help Xiaoqian?
I'll bring you a different Caichen, Hero Yan, and Xiaoqian.
