Young Qin Yun was a mere apprentice at an apothecary in a remote border town. Though gifted in the art of medicine, his spiritual energy was sluggish, leaving him no hope of cultivation. One night, his family was slaughtered by mysterious men in black. With his dying breath, his father entrusted him with half an ancient jade pendant and a mysterious jade slip, directing him to the great cultivation sect, Xuantian Sect.
On the verge of death, Qin Yun was saved by the reclusive master known as Elder Yao. Elder Yao uncovered the astonishing secret within him: Qin Yun possessed a Chaos Body, a once-in-ten-thousand-years constitution, yet his spiritual roots and talent were locked away by nine layers of profound seals! Elder Yao broke some of the seals and taught him the peerless alchemy manual, the Xuantian Pharmacopoeia. Qin Yun's cultivation advanced by leaps and bounds, and his alchemy talent stunned the world.
Following his father's dying wish, Qin Yun entered Xuantian Sect. Starting as an outer-sect disciple, he made a name for himself amid constant dangers, befriending Shi Potian, the hearty son of a hunter, and Liu Qingyao, the clever daughter of a wealthy merchant. The three formed a deep bond. But as Qin Yun's cultivation improved and the seals within him weakened, he drew the frenzied pursuit of the mastermind behind it all: the demonic powerhouse Netherworld Hall. Elder Yao's true identity then came to light. He was, in fact, the former sect master of Xuantian Sect! To protect Qin Yun, Elder Yao's remnant soul dissipated, leaving behind a world-shaking revelation: Qin Yun was the Chosen One foretold to avert the Chaos Calamity that struck once every ten thousand years, and his Chaos Body was the only hope!
The Lord of Netherworld Hall plotted to open the Gate of Chaos and seize its source power, stopping at nothing to incite a war between sects. Burdened by both the need to avenge his family and the duty to save the world, Qin Yun held half of the ancient jade pendant his father had left him and learned that he must gather five source jade pendants scattered across the Nine Provinces to fully awaken his Chaos Body and stand against Netherworld Hall. He bid farewell to Xuantian Sect and, on the northern border's icy plains, rescued and befriended Xue Linglong, the tribal saintess guarding the Water Spirit Pendant. Together, they fought Netherworld Hall's minions.
