The Xue Family Generals

The story begins with Xue Rengui, born into poverty, who relies on his martial skills and strategic acumen to distinguish himself in the Eastern Campaign. He subdues Liaodong, conquers Motian Ridge, and earns great military honors, becoming an important general of the Tang Dynasty. However, he repeatedly falls victim to the schemes of Zhang Shigui and other treacherous officials, enduring one hardship after another. Xue Rengui’s son, Xue Dingshan, takes up his father’s cause and leads an army on a western expedition, where he marries Fan Lihua. A formidable warrior and brilliant strategist, Fan Lihua fights side by side with her husband as they put down the rebellion in Xiliang. Their son, Xue Gang, is reckless by nature. After he kicks a prince to death and causes the emperor’s carriage to overturn, the entire Xue family is condemned to execution. Only Xue Gang’s wife, Ji Luanying, survives with their son, Xue Kui. Later, Xue Gang helps Prince of Luling Li Xian reclaim the throne, clearing the Xue family’s name. A new generation, including Xue Kui, continues to fight for the Tang Dynasty.
