The Zerg were skilled fighters, but the mysterious civilization had developed drugs that caused mental instability, putting the Zerg at a disadvantage. The Empire sent Evelyn, a male from the Deflo family, to deal with the crisis, playing right into the enemy’s hands. He was ambushed and kidnapped along the way. In the nick of time, the System helped Evelyn destroy the aircraft. He blew himself up, taking the enemy with him. When the news spread, half of the people on the star network angrily blamed the military and the Empire for their poor decisions. The other half praised the Deflo family’s brave son.

My name is Liuli, meaning “to be adrift and homeless.” Because I have no home left. I’m deaf in my left ear and nearly deaf in my right. As a male Zerg with weak mental power and a birthmark on my right cheek, I struggle to survive on a garbage planet.

One day, I woke up to find no other Zerg anywhere nearby. After a tremendous crash, I saw, through a blaze of dazzling sparks, the military fighting on the garbage planet. I’d missed the evacuation notice the night before. As I ran for my life, I burrowed into a garbage pile and watched armored soldiers battle through a rusty can. Unable to tell friend from foe, I covered my mouth and held my breath, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.

Long after the smoke cleared, chaos broke out among the troops. A Zerg who looked like a leader, with gold inlaid on his shoulder armor, had been abandoned by his subordinates in the mud. Blood seeped through his armor and stained the ground beside the garbage pile where I was hiding. I clutched the greasy hem of my clothes, my heart pounding as I worried that the aftermath of the battle would crush my last refuge.
