I Can’t Believe I’m the Water Mirror Fairy

Shuijing was born on the shores of Hengshui Lake and, from childhood, felt an extraordinary affinity for its waters. Once, on the lake shore, she found a thousand-year-old divine turtle trapped among the weeds. Shuijing was only five. To save it, she dug through weeds, silt, and broken tiles with her bare hands until her palms were torn open and her flesh split to the bone. With sheer effort, she slowly dragged the turtle, which weighed over two hundred jin, back into the lake. Once in the water, the turtle revived with renewed vigor and transformed into a young man, who rescued Shuijing as she lay unconscious from exhaustion. The turtle was the son of the Great Emperor Xuanwu. He had run into trouble while searching for Hengshui Lake's spirit pearl, and the young Shuijing had saved him. To repay the immortal maiden Shuijing for saving his life, he entered into a master-servant pact with her when she was still a child. From then on, Shuijing inherited the legacy of the Great Emperor Xuanwu and awakened the water spirit root within her. With the turtle by her side, she remained at Hengshui Lake as a rogue cultivator, protecting humanity from attacks by beings from other realms. As the battles grew fiercer, Shuijing became exceptionally irritable, often beating the otherworldly creatures until they regretted ever being born. The evil spirits from beyond the realms dubbed her the “Demon King of Hengshui Lake.” As Shuijing grew stronger, Lin Miao collected enough water spirit pearls to attract the attention of the Demon Suppression Bureau. She was specially recruited and joined Jin Feng and the others to form Dragon-Slaying Squad Nine, beginning their fight against the evil spirits from other realms.
