In the capital of the Great Zhou Dynasty, the household of Ming Yuan, Vice Minister of Rites, is holding a hairpin ceremony for his legitimate daughter, Ming Lan. Dignified on the surface but lively underneath, Ming Lan sneaks away to the back courtyard to steal some pastries while no one is watching, where she runs into the Sixth Prince, Zhou Chengjin, climbing over the wall. When they meet for the first time, Ming Lan mistakes him for a thief and knocks him unconscious with a vase. After waking, Zhou Chengjin conceals his identity and claims to be a guard from the prince’s residence named “Zhou Jin.” As they cautiously sound each other out, an unusual affection grows between them. Meanwhile, word spreads through the court that the emperor intends to choose a wife for the Sixth Prince, and the great noble houses begin making secret preparations.
