At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Yellow River burst its banks, and dangers abounded. Xiao Yanqiu, the son-in-law of a river management family, harbored the idea of using cement to strengthen the dam, but was suppressed by the "gabion plan" advocated by German water conservancy expert Coleman. Faced with doubts about worshiping foreigners, he relied on material mechanics experiments and fluid dynamics simulations to use data to break prejudices. At the Shandong River Engineering Bureau, he fought against all opinions and promoted the establishment of "river engineering technical standards", integrating traditional water control wisdom and modern technology, and writing his own water control legend amidst the turbid waves.
