At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, the Zhou Dynasty declined and hundreds of schools of thought contended. Laozi left Hangu in the west and wrote the Tao Te Ching, which laid the foundation of Taoist thought. Yin Xi founded the Wenshi School and started the inheritance of Taoism.
