[All male leads are devoted to the female lead; happy ending; possessive love and forbidden romance; ambitious heroine; utterly devoted to her]

Xiao Zhiyuan holds the power of the realm in his hands. Everyone knows the emperor is restrained and cold-blooded, but no one knows that he has long harbored a possessive, all-consuming desire for Gu Wanci, the beautiful wife of his trusted aide, Xie Heng!

One glimpse at the palace banquet, and the desire frozen in the emperor’s eyes blazed to life. As fate would have it, the loyal minister Xie Heng left for a distant land to deal with flooding, entrusting his lovely wife to Xiao Zhiyuan’s “care.” Looking into Gu Wanci’s captivating eyes, bright with ambition, Xiao Zhiyuan gave a cold laugh. This beauty has delivered herself into my hands. I’ll have her!

“Rest assured, Minister Xie. I will take ‘good care’ of your wife.”

The emperor weaves a web of schemes and forcibly draws the beauty into his arms. From minister’s wife to empress, Gu Wanci advances step by step, using the emperor’s obsessive love to her advantage. “I, your subject’s wife, gratefully accept Your Majesty’s favor.” She craves power and willingly becomes his hidden captive, never realizing that when her gentle husband Xie Heng returns and catches her in an indecent scene on the imperial bed, the heartbreak in his shattered eyes will stab her to the core!

“Wanci, you said you loved only me…” Xie Heng’s anguished question tears through the disguise concealing her ambition. Meanwhile, Xiao Zhiyuan’s jealousy erupts. As he throws his rival into the imperial prison, he snarls, “You dare covet my woman? I’ll make you wish you were dead!”

The emperor’s love is a poison that eats away at the soul, while suspicion and bloodshed spread through the palace. When Xie Heng risks his life to protect her, and the palace steps are stained with blood, only then does Gu Wanci understand: No matter how glorious it is to stand at the height of power, it can never compare to having once been protected in innocence by someone willing to lay down his life for her.

“Gu Wanci, I’ve killed every obstacle for you. How dare you not love me?” Xiao Zhiyuan grips her chin, his eyes bloodshot as he demands an answer.
