I Once Vowed to Never Grow Old with Anyone

Everyone knew Shen Jingrang’s childhood friend had once lit 999 eternal lamps to ask for her hand. At last, Xie Qingrang was moved by him and married him.

But in the sixth year of their marriage, he fell in love at first sight with a courtesan.

Though she lived in the pleasure quarter, she only performed and never sold herself. Pure and resolute, she once told him, “I don’t love power or wealth, and I don’t love married men. I only want to be with one person for my whole life.”

From then on, Shen Yanqing became utterly infatuated with her, going so far as to take her by force.

But he didn’t know that every time he pursued the courtesan, Xie Qingrang would use a silver hairpin to extinguish one of the eternal lamps.

When all 999 lamps went out, she would never look back.

The day he spent a fortune on the courtesan at the brothel, she extinguished the first lamp.

The day he pushed her aside at the Lantern Festival to catch the courtesan as she fell, she extinguished the 444th lamp.

The day he locked her in a cellar just so he could be alone with the courtesan, she extinguished the 888th lamp.
